Welcome on the Website of the

International Society of Gender Medicine

The IGM was founded in 2006 aiming to promote gender medicine in research, education and patient care. The society developed and grew constantly, advancing the understanding of gender medicine by bringing together scientists and clinicians of diverse backgrounds and disciplines. The IGM network now comprises many national societies, individual members and networks of professionals dedicated to implement gender medicine in their specific environment.

An individual’s sex is one of the most important modulators of disease risk and response to treatment. Clinical decision making, choice of diagnostic tests and interventions must acknowledge sex and gender aspects. Basic science, development of drugs, as well as translational research should consider sex and gender differences. Integrating sex and gender in science will increase the sustainability and reproducibility of results. Integrating sex and gender in patient management will push personalized individual care, patient safety, quality and effectiveness of care.

The IGM encourages and facilitates interdisciplinary research on sex and gender in basic and clinical frameworks. We advocate for the consideration of sex and gender differences in the management of diseases in future guidelines, as well as their complications.

Gender medicine introduces the socio-cultural dimension of patient-oriented precision medicine.

Help us to make a major step in the improvement of science and medical care and join the IGM ! Become an active member and support the advocacy of sex and gender in health and disease in an international context ! Together we can make a difference !

Welcome to our society !
